Engineering is a career choice for +2 students or diploma (10+3) students. For a student to secure admission in engineering; he or she should appear for the state level entrance exam (such as EAMCET or KCET) or national level entrance exams such as AIEEE or IITJEE.
Engineering is a 4 year degree and often associated as either B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) or B.E (Bachelor of Engineering); which is purely dependent on the university the college is affiliated to. Engineering will usually have a semester system (2 semesters per year) there will be a total of 8 semesters (in some colleges it could be different).
Specializations or Branches
Engineering is a professional course and hence it always has a specialization associated to it examples are Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering etc. Below is a list of few popular and known specializations:
| Aeronautical Engineering | Automobile Engineering |
| Biotechnology | Civil Engineering |
| Chemical Engineering | Computer Science |
| Design Engineering | Electrical Engineering |
| Electronics & Communications Engineering | Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering |
| Information Technology | Instrumentation & Production Engineering |
| Mechanical Engineering |
Each of the above branches are available even for Masters courses; for Masters in Engineering a bachelor’s degree in engineering would be preferred and a valid score in GATE is also a requirement.
